Oregon State, Michigan State Had Hoped To Play Game At White House

May 9, 2014 5:34 PM

Michigan State and Oregon State have shelved plans to play a game under a canopy on the White House grounds in the fall of 2016.

The Beavers fired Craig Robinson, brother-in-law to Barack Obama, this week.

“You’re always looking to explore unique opportunities for student-athletes, and that was one we were looking at,” Mark Hollis told the Free Press of the event that he devised as a way to honor Obama’s eight years in office. “It wasn’t a done deal, but it was one of the dreams. And it was very doable, in terms of logistics.”

Hollis is responsible for playing a game on an aircraft carrier in 2011, as well as a four-team barnstorming event in 2018.

Oregon State Fires Craig Robinson

May 5, 2014 10:37 AM

Oregon State has fired Craig Robinson as head coach.

In six seasons, Robinson went 95-104 with no NCAA tournament appearances. The Beavers went 16-16 last season and are losing all five starters from that team.

The Oregonian reported in March that Robinson would receive a buyout of $4 million.

Robinson began his tenure with a 18-win season in 2008-09, as he took a team that had lost 21 consecutive Pac-10 games and put the program on the right track.
